Mike doesn’t just wrangle data - he transforms it into insight, clarity, and action.
As Senior Data Scientist at TwinLabs.ai, Mike operates at the core of the platform’s intelligence layer, helping turn messy real-world inputs into the live analytics customers rely on every day. His work is as complex as it is foundational, bridging the physical world and the digital decisions that drive operations.
Split across two distinct but complementary domains, Mike’s role is anything but routine. On one side, he’s deep in the infrastructure that processes live sensor data - the very backbone of the TwinLabs system.
“We take raw records from various sensor types and need to homogenise and enrich them,” Mike explains.
“That data ultimately feeds our frontend, where customers view a live representation of their environment. The challenge is doing this fast enough that what they’re seeing is actually what’s happening right now.”
But speed isn’t the only challenge. Accuracy and intelligence are equally critical, which brings Mike to the second half of his role: advancing Maria, TwinLabs’ virtual data analyst.
“Getting an AI to think and speak like a real analyst and not just regurgitate templates is a massive challenge,” he says.
“We’re pushing to create something that produces real insight, not just plausible-sounding noise.”
His pride in the progress is clear, especially when describing the demographic inference service he built - a completely anonymous, probabilistic system that lets Maria answer questions like who is using what, without needing to track individuals.
This kind of innovation isn’t a one-off. Mike sees it as the natural result of TwinLabs’ broader engineering culture - a culture defined by trust, ambition, and a fierce standard of excellence.
“There’s a real ‘get it done’ vibe here,” he says.
“Everyone brings their best, and everyone expects the best from each other. That’s rare.”
For Mike, one of the biggest enablers of this culture has been the company’s enthusiastic embrace of AI tools - not just in the product, but in the way the team works.
“The shift has been profound,” he says.
“Generative AI has changed the game. It’s like going from sailing one boat to commanding a fleet. You’re doing more, thinking bigger, and moving faster.”
The result? Weekly releases that move the product forward in visible, meaningful ways.
“There’s always something new. That pace from idea to deployed is one of the best things about working here.”
Mike’s journey to TwinLabs is rooted in long-standing trust. Having worked with the founding team in the past, he knew what he was signing up for:
“Smart people, proven delivery, ambitious ideas. I knew I wanted in.”
And with the company’s first focus on the gym industry — part of a deliberate "Crossing the Chasm" strategy — he sees that ambition turning into traction.
“In a year, I’d be shocked if we weren’t powering day-to-day operations in multiple industries, not just gyms.”
But for all the tech talk, Mike is quick to point out that TwinLabs is a deeply human company.
“The team is invested, capable, driven. That’s what makes this such a phenomenal experience.”
Outside work, Mike finds balance in two places: music and movement. He spent his early 20s touring as a professional bass guitarist, and now channels that same energy into CrossFit.
“Six days a week,” he grins.
“Fitness is the glue that holds the house of cards together.”
“Do it.”
